A Summer Highlight - Highland Village Day
Although it is early to say for sure what the finest musical highlights will be on Cape Breton Island this summer, there is one concert that is guaranteed to be especially enjoyable because not only the music, but the view, is second to none in the world!
That would be the annual Highland Village Day concert, held in Iona, Cape Breton, each year on the first Saturday in August. The concert takes place outside, on the grounds of the Highland Village / An Clachan Gàidhealach, at the base of a large hill overlooking the world renowned Bras d’Or Lakes. The fantastic scenery, coupled with the very large marches, lifty strathspeys and tasty reels is without a doubt a choice way to spend an afternoon in Cape Breton.
The very young to the very old find themselves a place on the hill to sit, visit and listen. The music is representative of Cape Breton Island. There are fiddlers, dancers, piano players, Gaelic singers, pipers, some milling, and the list goes on. It is an afternoon chocked full of the finest of entertainment.
The additional attraction of this venue is of course, the Highland Village itself and the tour around the hill while you are there! The Highland Village offers a unique Gaelic cultural experience. It is true to the roots and interests of all Nova Scotia Gaels.
Come along, attend the concert, visit the museum and travel around the hill, enjoy the people, love the music, we welcome you one and all!
