The Cape Breton Regional Municipality comprises much of the urban area of the island near Sydney, but also contains many smaller communities that keep the culture alive. Visit Christmas Island, which has regular Gaelic events, including the popular Fèis An Eilein. There are monthly square dances in Westmount and there are Gaelic language classes in Sydney and Grand Mira.

Visit some of the venues in the municipality, such as the Savoy Theatre, Membertou Trade & Convention Centre and the Louisbourg Playhouse, that regularly feature Celtic musicians as part of their programming. In summer, numerous community festivals have cultural events, most notably the Big Pond Concert Week.
