In the Middle of Glenville………Can I stay Longer Please???
What a refreshing place to be…….. It had been too long since my last visit. The drive over was relaxing in itself, but the moments that followed as I drove up the driveway, parked and entered the grounds, were really moments of “awe” and total appreciation for the beauty that surrounded me.
The grounds are gorgeous. The flower beds, the sweet little bridge over the gurgling brook and the aroma of maple and apple create the aura of a fairytale. At that moment, I just wanted to sit, enjoy and savor. Nature is fantastic. What is almost equally as impressive is the fact that an internationally renowned distillery is in operation in this environment and yet the pristine world of rural Cape Breton sits still in the midst of it all.
The tour and a taste were enlightening. The lunch in the pub was far removed from the mindset that goes along with traditional “pub-food”. It was unquestionably tasty and superb. I think the whisky makes for a successful secret ingredient in many a dish! As if all wasn’t fantastic enough, in came the fiddler and the guitar player………..music while we dined! Not just any music. Traditional, real, authentic Cape Breton, language-filled tunes. Timely jigs. Marches with that perfect swing and chords on the guitar that complimented the blend of woods in each instrument, to a “T”. Pius and Allan rocked.
All should be afforded the good fortune of at least visiting, listening spending time at the Glenora Inn and Distillery in Glenville, Cape Breton. It is a piece of Cape Breton most definitely worth taking home.
