The story goes that the Rankin Family classic "Orangedale Whistle" was written after community historian and storyteller Jim St. Clair took his nephew Jimmy (Rankin) to Orangedale and told him all about the train that used to run through and stop there. Jim has lots of stories about trains, and about the life and times and people of Cape Breton Island. Chrissy Crowley will be on hand to play fiddle accompanied by Jason Roach on piano. One of Chrissy's grandfathers was Archie Neil Chisholm, a fine and well-known storyteller himself. Splitting the generations will be Irish fiddler Máire O'Keeffe and Cape Breton guitarist Paul MacDonald who have a history of playing together that goes back more than fifteen years. This show is kind of a cross section of the traditional culture here--gathered together across generations telling stories and playing tunes.
Head over early for Supper by the Lakes at the Smith Community Hall in Orangedale.
