A sunny day. Celtic Music. Beautiful scenery. Good food. What could be better?

Last month, I visited the Celtic Music Interpretive Centre in Judique and saw this license plate in the gift shop and knew it would be my theme for this summer.

Trì cheud bliadhna bhuaithe seo bha Eilean Cheap Breatainn fo smachd nam Frangach agus 's dòcha gur ann bhuapa-san a fhuair sinn an t-ainm "Ceap Breatainn" ach cha chreid mi gu bheil cinnt aig duine sam bith a thaobh sin. A réir mo chuid fhiosrachd, chan eil sinn cinnteach idir cia ás a thàinig an t-ainm "Ceap Breatainn" no cò a chleachd air thùs e.

Place names around Nova Scotia (ahem, Latin for New Scotland) honoured homes of the Gaels who crossed the ocean centuries ago. We have our Aberdeen and New Aberdeen, Barra Glen and Skye Glen, Iona and Inverness.

Do you? I don't... but I know a few more words after traveling Cape Breton Island for two days this week visiting the best Celtic and Gaelic sites we have to offer.

The East Coast Music Association (ECMA) is a regional collaboration of people in the music industry of Atlantic Canada. It is best known to the public for the series of awards handed out at the annual celebration that travels around Eastern Canada. It is interesting to note that Cape Breton has equal status with the four Atlantic Provinces as a separate region under the ECMA umbrella and the event has taken place here four times.
